Transformers 3D Rocks it.

Movie Grade: A-

It’s never easy to make a successful third in a movie series, but Michael Bay and company did just that with Transformers 3. They built off the same story line as the prior two films, but revealed a new secret of the history of the autobots past.

One of the great components of the prior Transformers films was the coupling of action with humor. This film still combines wonderful (perhaps the best) action scenes with the hilarious and neurotic characters of the past.

Shia LaBeouf does another great job. Supermodel Rosie Huntington replaces Megan Fox and LaBeouf’s girl. There was some criticism to her acting (when isn’t there criticism of acting?), but she does a very good job and certainly can’t be said to not have done just as well as Megan Fox.

The action scenes take place in downtown Chicago and one of the coolest scenes when the characters were getting away from the evil autobot Worm in a building which kept turned over and over.

Another great scene, of course, was the no-green screen shot of the characters in winged suits flying throughout the city. See how they made that here.

The one dry stint in the movie came towards the middle and end when they attempted to retake Chicago. There was a lot of straight action, without much comedic relief we have known Transformers for. Other than that, this movie did a great job, and I highly recommend a view in 3D.

Hangover II

Hangover II is funny and well-made, but in all honesty it doesn’t really make the cut. It’s a repeat storyline with different jokes that aren’t quite as funny as Hangover I.

Movie Grade: C

 

This time the boys get caught in Thailand and a little bon-fire on the beach turns into a crazy night all over Thailand, with some funny and raw humor.

It’s not a bad movie to see, but if push comes to shove, I’d say go watch Hangover I again than watch Hangover II.

Midnight in Paris

Another classic hit by Woody Allen. This movie provides old Woody Allen style, with the new generation actors such as the accomplished Owen Wilson, the great Rachel McAdams and the gorgeous Marion Cotillard.  If you’re a fan of Paris, you’re going to love this movie as the entire movie is set in present and past Paris.  Also, this is a great change-up from the normal Hollywood high entertainment, low literary value works.  Watching this movie is almost like reading a literary novel.s

Movie Grade: A-

The movie is about Gil (Owen Wilson), a struggling book author, who is on a modern day trip with his fiance Inez in Paris. He feels he has been born in the wrong time period and dreams of what it would have been like to have lived in an earlier time period, when all the great authors were made. After going for a nighttime stroll he enters a passing carriage, only to be whisked away to the early 1900s, where he randomly meets authors and artists, such as Hemingway and Picasso, before they have truly become legends they are known for today.

Not only does he befriend the artists and get counsel on the book he is writing, he also meets the mistress of all these great artisans Adriana (Marion Cotillard), and they fall in love.

The moral of the story strikes at the end when ***Spoiler Alert*** Gil and Adriana are going for their own night stroll in 1920s Paris and they get into another carriage where they are whisked to earlier time period. Adriana falls in love with it, as she thinks this early time period would have been the greatest time to live, not the early 1900s. Of course, as they converse with great artists at this time, they are arguing how glorious it would have been to have lived during the Renaissance.

Thus, we learn that every time period comes with its own inglorious moments and complications of mundane life. That we always look to the past as the “time to have lived” but the truth of the matter is, that glory only comes after the moment has passed. That even the character in those time periods did not appreciate the gravity of what they were doing for future generations, nor feel the glory. Thus, we are born when we are born and we should enjoy it as we are here and now.

Super 8 Preview

Super 8 is a melting pot of the Goonies, Signs, and Transformers. It has a pretty good story line, although nothing too unique. It entails alien life, who happens to have the look and build of a Transformer bot. At parts, it has the mysteriousness, suspensefulness, and spookiness of the movie Signs. And then, the best part, the main characters are a group of young kids going on an adventure to discover the secret behind the alien monster that has landed on their planet. Like the Goonies, the kids are hilarious, provide great comedic relief, and there is even a fat one… shout out to Chunk!

The Acting was also great, carried by the main characters – Joel Courtney and Elle Fanning. I especially felt Fanning, winner of the 2011 Young Hollywood Award, did a great job with her character.  The film was also produced by the man of filming men, Steven Spielberg.

The large movie theater I went to in Los Angeles was sold out at $15/ticket, so that should give you an idea of the interest and/or popularity in this movie. In other words, I give it:

Transformers 3 Stunts

Holy my goodness.

You thought movies were fake? Wait until you check out some of the most amazing stunts ever performed when Transformers 3 hits theaters June 29, 2011.

Michael Bay, who has produced films such as Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and the first two Transformers, sets the bar even higher with his amazing winged-man stunts. He sent his stunt boys into a 45-day training before he sent them plummeting off the Willis (formerly Sears) tower, standing 1,451 feet tall for a filming period of two weeks.

No green screen, no bungee cords. This was Real Banshee-Spiderman-Batman action!

Can’t wait to see how it turns out on the big screen in 3-D!
